Google+ Tells Businesses to Wait Before Joining their New Social Network
If you haven't heard of Google+ (Google Plus) yet, it's Google's brand spanking new social network just recently introduced to the public (June 28th). In fact, so many people tried to join, Google was overloaded and had to shut down its invitation system. They are currently in "limited field trial" mode. Google+ is similar to Facebook and Twitter in many ways, but adds some new features as well, including the ability to communicate with specific friends (all Facebook posts are viewed by everyone in your network) and the ability to have video conferences with up to 10 friends. Many businesses are anxious to join this new network, but today, Google issued a request that businesses hold off for now until they perfect their business profiles. They have even gone so far as to cancel existing business profiles including the accounts of some influential names like Mashable, Ford, and Breaking News. So hold off for now.
If you'd like to set up a personal profile, you may join a waiting list and Google will tell you when they are ready. You will need to set up a Google email account if you don't already have one. Only time will tell if this new social network will thrive or die. We will keep an eye on it and keep you abreast of the situation. When the time is right, and if it looks like something beneficial to businesses, we will let you know.
